What to see in Valparaiso, Chile’s cultural hub

My first encounter with Valparaiso dates back to the winter of 2017 when on a cold rainy weekend I was won over by the plot of Val Paradis, a book written by Alain Jaubert, which tells the adventures of a young French sailor during a twenty-four-hour stopover in the legendary Chilean harbour city. The book, which I read in one breath, fascinated me to such an extent that Valparaiso forcibly entered my tourist radar, becoming much more than a mere point on the map at the other side of Europe.
