The 10 experiences not to miss in Sri Lanka: first part

Close your eyes and imagine an Eden made of lush forests, colorful flowers, misty peaks and long beaches that contain ruins of ancient civilizations. Welcome to Sri Lanka, the island where landscape variety, cultural heritage and ancestral traditions go hand in hand. Here is my personal list of 10 experiences not to be missed to make the most of this rich mix:

1) VISIT THE ANCIENT CITIES (Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Anurandhapura, Dambulla, Kandy): Buddhist temples, cave paintings, ruins of palaces, Buddha statues carved on the rock are some of the treasures left about 2000 years ago by the ancient Sinhalese dynasties in what they were the capitals of their kingdoms. All five belonging to the Unesco world heritage, these cities form the so-called Cultural Triangle, the archaeological paradise of the island and an unmissable stage of any itinerary, of which I speak in detail here. For us, that we visited them all except for Anurandhapura, they were the most beautiful experience of the whole trip.
