What to see in Tirana in half a day: my pedestrian itinerary

Is there a better way for a passionate traveler to start the new year than exploring a new city? I celebrated the first day of 2018 visiting Tirana, Albania’s capital city. Having had a very calm New Year’s eve, my parents and I got up early and we ventured through the streets of Tirana, which had still to wake up from the longest night of the year.

Our walking itinerary started and finished at the iconic Scanderberg Square from which depart wide avenues leading to the capital’s four corners. Along one of these, the Bulevardi Dëshmorët and Kombit, lie Tirana’s main places of interest, such as the pyramid, Mother Teresa Square, the exclusive Blloku district as well as numerous public buildings, all easily accessible on foot (see map below).
